Family Home, Crawley
1960's house retrofit strategy
LEAF were asked to look at ways of improving the thermal performance of a family home built in the late 1960’s.
In the 1960’s there was no legal requirement for house builders to insulate properties because the Building regulations as we know it didn’t exist. This property had had little done to make it more thermally efficient since then so it was cold, draughty and damp in places. LEAF provided a whole house retrofit strategy which was laid out in stages so that the retrofit of the house could take place over time. These were easy to follow and implement starting with the most urgent and effective energy saving measures and culminating in the long term objective of achieving a near Enerphit level of energy saving and carbon emission reduction. This is a situation where you would have a significantly warmer and more airtight property coupled with careful ventilation and heating design.
