Reducing Energy Bills for a Grade 1 Listed Home
The owners of this Grade I Listed house in one of the iconic seafront crescents in Brighton wanted advice on how to reduce their large energy bills.
LEAF carried out a Retrofit survey and gave practical advice on how to improve and simplify their currently very wasteful heating system as a priority. There were also a number of areas where managing water ingress and maintenance issues were highlighted.
We gave advice on which retrofit measures are achievable in an historic property such as this. Built in the 1820’s, the property is of solid wall construction and with this level of listing most alterations need listed building consent both internal and external but there are still measures you can take. There are various ways you can improve the thermal performance of the listed doors and windows without damaging the visual appearance. LEAF also gave advice on how to effectively insulate the roof and the solid floors while not damaging fragile elements such as timbers.
