One Garden: A heritage café and shop within the unique setting of a historic walled garden

Stickland Wright were appointed by Plumpton College to help deliver their vision for One Garden Brighton. The site is within the historic walled gardens of Stanmer Park and is to become an unique tourist destination in the South East. The purpose is to promote innovative and educationally creative horticulture whilst enriching community spaces for local people.

As part of this vision the Stickland Wright interior design team designed a farm shop to sit centrally within the garden where Plumpton College and local producers can sell their produce and engage in community events to help educate and inspire. Alongside the market we have designed the café interior where visitors can enjoy food cooked using produce from the enterprise within the historic setting of the park. The project opened Spring 2021.

SERVICES PROVIDED

Stickland Wright’s interior design team responded to the brief with a bold and original design concept. Our strategic approach encompassed in-depth competitor research and brand analysis, ensuring a refined and distinctive offering.

Our interiors SW+ services transformed the vision into reality with a comprehensive fit-out package for tender, covering every detail—from lighting and electrical plans to bespoke joinery construction and curated specifications for furniture and equipment.

Energy efficient design was key, particularly in the existing greenhouses. Overheating analysis and daylight modelling was conducted, and targeted strategies mitigated potential heat build up to ensure a comfortable environment within this unique setting.
