Workplace

A Victorian laundry, sensitively transformed to a contemporary office Headquarters in Hove.

Stickland Wright architecture and interiors team were appointed to design a new workplace environment for Wenham Carter. The new space is created with a dramatic extension to the original building, once a Victorian laundry. The light filled, engaging design creates a welcoming space for their team to come together and thrive, offering a community hub for the company that adopts a hybrid working culture. Since it opened in the summer of 2022 Wenham Carter have seen an increase in staff working in the office who appreciate the onsite facilities, which include a gym, games area, communal dining and multiple break out spaces.

SERVICES PROVIDED

Stickland Wright took this challenging site and created a unique concept to maximise site use while also optimising light, natural ventilation and address overlooking issues. Planning permission was granted on first application.

Our architecture and interior design SW+ service included the creation of  a fully detailed tender and construction package. We attended site regularly to assist the project manager with onsite queries and helped ensure a high quality build result.

Low energy design principles were integrated into this design from day one. Thermal modelling was carried out early on to guide design requirements and balance the desire for large areas of glazing.

This project was awarded “highly commended” at the Sussex Heritage Trust Awards. The judges said of the project:

“The design was innovative in balancing work and down-time. Good use of a former industrial building and blended extension to create a light airy environment.”
