Period Family Home, Hove

Introducing social spaces and practicality back to a previously converted Victorian property.

Home, Renovation

The owners of this impressive Victorian property came to us with an unusual problem: they needed to make the property smaller. The building had once been a dance school and more recently a care home which had resulted in some ill-conceived rear extensions, and so we relished the challenge of re-designing the building as a modern family home.

The design was led from the interior, incorporating period features where they existed, and embracing a more contemporary design in the rear extension where a strong connection to the garden was important. The re-planning blends a good amount of open plan living space for sociability whilst retaining very practical and essential storage and utility zones to cope with the demands of an active family. Our favourite design details are the secret drinks bar and the panelled snug with an impressive wood store and new log burner.
